Hey guys!

I stumbled across a great site here. This site is the home page for an event dreamt up by Anna Hayes and Taylor Lubecki. These two were the original fundraising chair-people for the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). They also headed up the funding for the Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

The event in question is hosted by USF’s engineering organizations, Anna & Taylor wanted to integrate engineering with something that was enjoyed by a broad spectrum of people. That something was craft beer.

Here is an excerpt from their site explaining about the event, which highlights Tampa Bay’s booming craft brew industry, whilst also educating attendees on the engineering and science associated with the creation of craft beers:

The purpose of this event is to help AIChE and SWE raise funds to continue their mission of promoting STEM education. Every year, both of these organizations participate in the University of South Florida College of Engineering’s Engineering EXPO, which allows thousands of middle and high school students to experience engineering and science hands-on. It is the organizations’ mission to inspire as many students as possible to pursue a career in STEM. Additionally, these organization use funds raised to invite professional speakers to general body meetings, attend professional conferences, and tour facilities. Each of these events allows their members to develop well-rounded views about becoming an engineer. With this event, we will be able to go above and beyond to catalyze students to do just that: become engineers.

Definitely something to check out if you are in the Tampa Bay area! STEM subjects are the future of innovation and I think it is a good way to bring non-STEM interested intellectuals into the fold by integrating a love that spans multiple academic areas.
